Hello, Garforth Gazette!
As someone who is very invested in the LS25 community, there’s not much that I love more than going out to local events and seeing what’s happening! Yesterday, I visited the Garforth Market, which is organised by Yorkshire Urban Markets and runs every month.
I managed to have a lovely conversation with a lot of the stallholders, including the owner of Holy Dough-ly and the man who runs Yorkshire Urban Markets, Jordan (he makes excellent foccacia!)
Beyond that, the market had something for everyone- baked goods, dog treats, candles and wax melts, rum punch and fizzy drinks, hand-painted flowerpots, crocheted Kindle bags, engraved coasters, homemade chocolates and many other delights!
I loved talking to the ladies who ran Once Upon a Scent, based locally, who talked to me about their appreciation for novels and how fantasy books had inspired the names and scents for their wax melts and candles. We bonded over our shared enthusiasm for long skirts and Fleetwood Mac!
Once Upon a Scent was not the only place that was talking about books, though! The Wonky Bookshelf is a book stall that pops up across West Yorkshire selling a variety of popular novels. They also have a little mascot…
They aren’t sure what to name them, and might be deciding via a giveaway later on on their social media. I couldn’t help but admire the other pieces of crochet craft, created with love for Kindles.

Grange Chocolates– made in Garforth! Had the chocolates today, can confirm a beautiful depth of flavour. They are all hand-painted.
Burzt Drinks– based in Meanwood! Sadly, I couldn’t get anything left due to not drinking alcohol, but it says a lot to me that all of the soft drinks sold out that quickly.
The Happy Hot Dog Hotel– based in Harrogate! They make treats for dogs, which are very reasonably priced, in my opinion. There are meaty and fruit/vegetable options, and tough vs. soft sticks in all sizes depending on whether your dog is tiny or large.
A Slice of Home– based in Moortown. A family-run brownie brand that I saw take measures to make sure that every stall holder had a brownie to take away with them during packup, fyi! Delicious brownies, lovely heated with ice-cream.
I’m sorry if I didn’t have time to check out your stall before closing! But if it’s any consolation I will be back…
