Garforth Ladies FC, a new football team comprised of women who live in the local area, have started training sessions in early September and are actively recruiting new players of all abilities aged 16 and over.
They had their first meeting on the 8th September at Garforth Academy, LS25 1AA. The group meet to train every Tuesday, with Garforth Working Men’s Club, LS25 1AU, as their regular clubhouse.
Lauren Bosley, the founder of the group, stated that her group was suitable for any woman, whether they had played football before or not- ‘We’re offering something a little different: a welcoming, inclusive team where everyone can get involved, whatever their experience or ability.’
Garforth has a thriving football scene currently, with Garforth Town AFC, Garforth Villa Football Club, and the youth group Garforth Rangers. However, there has never been a dedicated football club for women in Garforth, and now things have changed!
‘Our first training session was a huge step for me as I was so nervous and for the ladies that turned up- turning up for the first time can be daunting, but the smiles, laughter and enthusiasm made it clear that it was all worth it…
The response so far has been unreal, and we can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.’
