Aberford Literature Festival is set to return to LS25 this summer, taking place from the 19th to the 21st of June. This literary festival has been running since 2024, and offers opportunities for nearby residents to participate in writing workshops, attend author discussions and participate in a murder mystery night.
All events excluding the last two will take place at Aberford Village Hall, LS25 3DA.

The festival starts on the 19th, with a guest discussion by playwright John Godber (Happy Families, Up ‘n’ Under, Teechers). Afterwards, there will be live performances of two new audio dramas by the Aberford Authors Drama Collective, The Wake and The Accident. Pie and peas will be available at these showings, with a BYOB policy!
On the 20th, children’s book author Peter J. Murray (Mokee Joe franchise) will be giving a workshop for children and their families. There will also be a treasure hunt.

Further activities on Saturday include: Author Linda Jones (Deadwood Hall, Deep Waters) leading a story-writing workshop for teenagers, a talk by Ann Dinsdale and Sharonn Wright about their Brontë House Detectives series (complete with discussion about all things Brontë sisters), and a sonnet writing workshop by Suzannah Evans (Cadaverine).
On Saturday night, there will be a murder mystery night, with pie and peas available.

On Sunday, there is an afternoon talk by four authors: Wes Markin (DCI Yorke series), Maria Frankland (Last Christmas), Yvonne Battle-Felton (Remembered), and Robin Squire (script editor for Doctor Who.)
Further events on Sunday include: the ALF Awards at The Arabian Horse, LS25 3AA, where prizes are given out for works of literature by children, teenagers and adults, and a session run by Maria Frankland about independent publishing.

At the literature festival, stories from the individuals that participate in the ‘Write a Story in Three Weeks’ course at Garforth Library will be shown, with a chance to win an ALF award.

Chris Berry, organiser, said that “Aberford Literature Festival is all about having fun, just as writing should be.”
