Garforth Fire Station runs car wash for Fire Fighters Charity

Today, Sunday 29th March, Garforth Fire Station hosted a fundraising car-wash in order to raise funds for the Fire Fighters Charity. The event ran from 10am-3.30pm, with staff standing outside waving to cars and buses nearby!

Posters had also been placed in the surrounding area, repping the Fire Fighters Charity.

The car wash had also been recently promoted on social media leading up to the event, with more information about the charity itself offered.

On the Fire Fighters Charity homepage, the aims of the organisation are defined like this:

‘We’re the UK fire family’s charity, providing timely clinical care and wellbeing support to members of the UK’s fire services and their families, helping them to adapt to physical, emotional and social challenges, to adapt to conditions, injuries and illness, and to transition to life after service.’

When visiting the Fire Station, I was told a little more about the charity by Georgina, the Crew Manager of the station.

“The Fire Fighters Charity supports firefighters up and down the country, with support for their mental health, (and) their physical health. (The charity) also support(s) fire colleagues and their families as well.”

According to the staff, the car wash had proven very popular, and was the second in the local area following another in Castleford yesterday.

I was also told that a car wash next year was in the works!

There were many cars getting hosed down at the station, but the firefighters (and mini firefighter) were kind enough to allow me to get a picture of them all together!

A happy one!
